For those that know me I’m not a huge follower of POP groups.  Or classic rock, or really any specific group, genre…  Yet I do seem to know a fairly wide range of music that I enjoy listening to.  Usually can’t tell you the name of the song, or the artist, but can often times belt out all the words to songs to the amusement of others.

Yet still when turning on the radio I tend to know only a few of the songs on the “current stations.  And the older Classic Rock stations tend to be too… singular in their music tastes to keep my interests for more than a single car ride.  Yes I love hearing the old guitar rifts of classic rock, but I also like hearing some of the funky 70s music, the cheesy 80 synthesized music, and the boy bands of the 90s.

So I tend to stick to my podcasts in the car.  Tech, Disney, and a few other bits and pieces. My daughter tends to roll her eyes when I do that though, so I try to find some stations while she’s in the car that will keep both of our interests.  One of the stations I ran across was new: B94.5 FM, which has the tag “Best of the 70s, 80s, & 90s”  Uh huh sure.  Was decent enough.  Every song in the car I knew the words to.  Each song different enough to not get me stuck in a music type.

And then I forgot about it.   I went back to my podcasts in my commutes, skipping music all together.  Fast forward to the weekend when once again I was with my daughter in the car.  Turn on the radio and went to start to scan when realized didn’t need to, because there was already a decent song on.  Then another.  Then another… Got home to do cleaning and found they had a internet stream and so I turned that on in the background.

Great song after great song… then ads.  UGH! I forgot how annoying that is.  But was busy with cleaning and before I had a chance to get to my iPad to switch to a DisneyWorld background stream, they were back to music.  And thus the cycle of the next few hours went.  Great music, interspersed with ads.

My wife the next day mention that she wanted to share a playlist over Apple Music with my daughter to get her more into music.  And it dawned on me, there had to be a way to see what was playing on this station, and make a playlist on Apple Music to just cut out the middle man and listen to the music without the ads and talk.

I’ve had Apple Music for a while but only used it to play the occasional song.  I never really took advantage of the family Apple Music plan we had.  Always stuck to my podcasts, or DisneyWorld streams.

Little bit of research and ran across this: http://onlineradiobox.com It lists radio stations and the last 7 days worth of music.  Compile that all into some spreadsheets and a couple auto filters later.. and I have myself a playlist of over 1 day’s worth of music, of which I almost know all the words to every song.
