Part 2 of 5 in the iPad for Business series. What can an iPad offer me for work?
Communication Apps. Second only to the most generic of business apps is communication. Without being able to discuss what you will be doing, or share what you’ve already done, doing the actual work is kinda useless. So below are different apps to allow you to do just that.
IM+ Pro( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/im-pro/id296246130?mt=8 )
9.99 – Universal: Great IM program allowing you to sign in with multiple instant messaging accounts (AIM, Skype, Facebook, Yahoo, etc). Allows for offline mode, so if you leave the app or wifi range you can stay online. (I’ve since done a full review in a later post)
Skype ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/skype/id304878510?mt=8 )
Free – iPhone: Another great messaging service. Advantage here is in addition to working with all Skype clients, it also allows for video chatting (for iOS devices with a camera)
FaceTime ( Native )
Included – Universal: Reach any iOS or Mac user with FaceTime. Unfortunately only works with FaceTime clients, but the quality is indeed far better than Skype’s.
Dragon Dictation ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dragon-dictation/id341446764?mt=8 )
Free – Universal: Great app for when you don’t feel like typing. Downside is that you have to copy your content out of the app into whatever you are working on. But the ability to jot down tons of information without typing is worth the hassle.
Mail, Contacts & Calendar ( Native )
Included – Universal: Just a reminder that the simple included apps are indeed great communication tools for work. Mail, contacts and your daily calendar is at your fingertips with these included apps.
Webmail++ ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/webmail/id392501588?mt=8
1.99 – Universal: Good alternative if you want something a little more out of your mail program.
iMessage ( Native – iOS 5 )
Included – Universal: I’m including this one, even though it won’t be out until the fall. This is an extension of the SMS option on iphones, but allows you to chat, post files, videos, pictures, with anyone with an iOS 5 device.
(Note – iPad-designed for the iPad, iPhone– designed for iPhone & scales for iPad, Universal– Designed for both, Native-Part of the iOS applications)
