There are very few things that have stayed as a great sense of imagination and awe from my childhood into my time now as an adult. Something that both puts chills on my skin and sets my mind soaring exploring what I possibly could do or think up. The Kodak True Colors pre-show that was before “Honey I Shrunk the Audience” is one of these things. I’d go into that pavilion early, just to make sure I’d get to see the pre-show, something I can’t say for many others (ok fine… Muppets comes to mind but that’s it). It still gives me chills when listening to it on SRsounds or MouseWorld Radio or even if i’m just playing back inside my head.
It had for me the perfect blend of pictures, transitions, music and most interesting – Words.
It was something that I paid attention to what was written up on the screens. The layout, the rhythm, the questions it posed. Words didn’t flow they way you expected. They’d come up behind the other words, blend into other phrases, be out of focus, all things to spark your imagination. It was a list of things to do to stretch and make the most of your mind. All these things even to this day fill me with the imagination of “what if?”
Unfortunately the pre-show has gone away. It’s been gone for quite a while. And while it was up was before the massive influx of video cameras. I’ve only in my years of searching found 1 copy of the show that’s worth watching. I’ve transcribed it all below. I’d love if someone could either recreate this or find a really decent copy. It’s a show that almost makes me want to try myself had I had access.
So please enjoy my favorite pre show from Disney – True Colors

True Colors
This preshow is no preshow. It’s a show of it’s own, and I profoundly miss it. It should be broadcast all over the parks, in all kinds of ways. It says “Free your mind”. What a rebellious imperative. That’s why we love Disney!
