In my most recent trip down to Disney World for the Food and Wine festival I ran across something that made me stop. Something that you just take for granted in this “high tech” age. It was in the old Wonders of Life pavilion where Disney seems to forget it is there until they need a space for some festival center. As such it’s been stuck in status for over a decade. Back to a simpler, slower time.
What made me take pause? The bathroom.
Yes, you read that right. The bathroom. Disney World was the first place I ever ran into automatic sinks and toliets. This was probably back in the 90s when it wasn’t all that common. Over in Tomorrow Land in the Magic kingdom and all over EPCOT. Now a days we just take it for granted. Almost everywhere we go we no longer have to hit a nob or turn a handle. It’s just there and does it for us.
Especially at places like Disney World that keeps things up to date, it makes a place like this stand out as a place from a future time. Especially since it’s where that technology was introduced to me in the first place.
So here is the cutting edge of 1990…
